Frequently Asked Questions:
Can this mount hold heavier tactical equipment?
Absolutely, it's designed to support gear up to 110lbs with durable construction.
If you are an actual ninja, play one on TV, or just love having lots of nylon tactical gear, then look no further. Tough Hooks are nice and cost less, but you're significant other may have a problem with you storing your sweaty, smelly and over-manly tac gear in the same closet that stores their undergarments, because you don't have a dedicated place to hang your space shuttle door gunner ninja gear.Find a nice, isolated corner behind your water heater in the basement, or if you are very fortunate, an uncluttered area in your man cave, find the wall studs [this is VERY important], and go to work. If the placement precludes wall studs, the kit does include wall anchors to help stabilize the load. However, if your high-speed rig includes ballistic plates all around, eight rifle mags, four pistol mags, IFAK, tomahawk, Gatling gun, and jetpack, I somehow doubt the ability of your drywall to hold it. Do yourself a solid and mount it do something that will actually bear the load. The kit itself is packaged nicely and the instructions are easy to follow. Everything seems pretty solid, from the steel hooks to the aluminum extrusion. The claim is that it can hold up to 110 pounds and I don't doubt that [however, your drywall is not rated to that, I imagine]. Luckily I can't really test that theory. I've got normal ballistic armor, not medieval plate mail. My only concern is the wooden "shoulders" that will hold your shoulder straps and bear most of the weight. They have had no issues holding my plate carrier, chest rig, and all the associated kit that is attached to them [mainly mags and other tactical sundries]. My concern is that if you knock into the wood accidentally, there is a real potential of breaking them. Part of that issue is that it seems rather lightweight wood for its intended purpose, and if the steel plate is mounted solidly into a wall stud, the wooden hanger will break before anything else does, if hit with enough force. That's hardly a dealbreaker, if you consider that 90% of its use will be just mounted on the wall and hanging for months on end. But if the zombie apocalypse happens and you are in too much of a rush to carefully unhook your gear, you could inadvertently break the hanger off the aluminum mounting. Additionally, the hex bolt that holds the hanger to the mounting will come loose, eventually. I would be wary of cranking it down too much, because it eventually presses into the somewhat soft wood of the hanger.Having the helmet and belt hook is a very nice touch, if you own a ballistic helmet or you have football/lacrosee/hockey gear. You can keep all your gear together and easily accessible in one place.Overall, this is a sorted piece of kit. It's pricier than a Tough Hook or similar product, but it also is a bit more versatile. The helmet and belt hook is adjustable on the aluminum beam, so you can space your gear out in an orderly fashion.
I wasn’t expecting much when I felt how very lightweight this was, but it surprised me. Assembly was a breeze and took only a few minutes. The finished product was lightweight but sturdy. It’s holding up well to my son’s heavy gear.
honestly its a lot better than I was expecting. some assembly required but its fairly strait forward. comes with anchors for both drywall/stud and concrete which is nice. this holds everything it advertises in a efficient manner and its easy to get only the piece you need without removing everything else to get to it.
My brother is a LEO and I tossed this in with his Christmas items. Its a great buy. It is easy to assemble and mount. Its sturdy enough to hold his vest and all of his tactical gear. Definitely a good purchase.
This will be my 3rd plate rack, the others bent. And it was pretty obvious at the start they would. When I opened Altitudecrafts rack for armor? I knew it would be the last one I’d buy. I don’t just have a vest and a helmet, I have full armor. Lever 4, even a mandible, and leg armor. About…32 pounds. This thing holds up great. Just make sure to mount in studs
